BONUS: Monday, July 16th
Excavated with past intern, while there were volunteers working in the lab. I worked in both EUs 107 and 109, while the past intern excavated EU 108.
EU 107: continued with level 9, found a feature on the NE side of the unit (darker brown soil) and a potential second level of feature 176 (again, darker brown soil); not many artifacts found.
EU 108: continued with level 7; found a new level (yellow soil similar to EU 107's level 8) with a potential reddish soil feature around the rock pile feature; still finding a number of artifacts.
EU 109: continued with level 8; found a feature (yellow soil similar to EU 107's level 8), a potential feature/level 9 (soil with red crumbly rocks), and another feature in NW corner (darker soil with charcoal concentrations); not many artifacts found.
Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Overall Working Hours: 8 hours
Tuesday, July 17th
Excavated with past intern, while two present interns sifted for us. Again, I worked in both EUs 107 and 109, while the past intern worked in EU 108.
EU 107: clean troweled the new level 10 which contains two features (176 level 2 in the NW and 178 in NE); started level 10 paperwork.
EU 108: clean troweled the new level 8 which contains a new feature (179, which was around the rocks).
EU 109: took out NW bulk; clean troweled new level 9 which contains two features (180 in the SW with soil similar to EU 107's level 8 and 181 in NW).
It started pouring, so instead of continuing we went to Dewee's where we organized the archaeology annex room in the west attic by putting in new shelves.
Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Overall Working Hours: 8 hours
Wednesday, July 18th
Mapped and excavated with past intern, while one present intern sifted. Additionally, I worked in EU 107 while the past intern worked in EUs 108 and 109.
EU 107: excavated features 176 level 2 and 178 (both contained a larger concentration of artifacts than the previous level); started excavating level 10 (yellow brown soil).
EU 108: feature 179 was switched to being the soil on the east side of the unit, making the red dirt around the rock feature the level; excavated feature 179 where rocks were found (though they popped right out) as well as a high concentration of artifacts.
EU 109: excavated both features (180 and 181).
Hours: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
Overall Working Hours: 7 hours 30 minutes
Thursday, July 19th
Worked with past intern. We left EU 109 alone for the day, as I was focused on EU 107 while the past intern was focused on EU 109.
EU 107: continued excavating level 10; switched to feature 176 level 2 as I was now better able to access it; feature 177 seems to have a new level so I clean troweled the entire unit as it became a new level (11).
EU 108: excavated feature 179; excavated level 8 where a 'tail' of rocks was found coming off the large rock pile (has a concentration of artifacts).
Hours: 9:00 am to 5:15 pm
Overall Working Hours: 8 hours 15 minutes
Friday, July 20th
Worked in Dewee's organizing the contents of both attic spaces, meaning we brought archaeological artifacts/art/textiles/tools/3-D props/etc. to their proper rooms.
Hours: 9:00 am to 6:30 pm
Overall Working Hours: 9 hours 30 minutes
Saturday, July 21st
The past intern, a volunteer, and I worked on the units while the two interns sifted for us. I was in EU 107, the past intern in 108, and the volunteer in 109.
EU 107: excavated feature 177 level 2; excavated level 11 (same soil as level 10 but because of the feature was created).
EU 108: excavated level 8; might have hit subsoil in some areas.
EU 109: excavated level 9; hit subsoil (tightly packed soil with no charcoal smears and a lack of artifacts) to be called level 10.
Hours: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
Overall Working Hours: 7 hours 30 minutes
